PERIANAL FISTULA IS A COMMON DISORDER THAT OFTEN RECURS.
A perianal fistula is an artificial tunnel that, in the majority of cases, develops from an infection that begins within a blocked anal gland. If the infection cannot be cleared from the anal gland an abscess forms and the infection burrows though muscles in the rectum and exits externally at the buttocks. Although perianal fistula has been recognized for thousands of years, the treatment of complex or recurrent perianal fistula continues to challenge surgeons today.

Signum Surgical is committed to developing innovative solutions to treat patients with colorectal diseases, starting with anal fistula. After a year of exploring the needs of gastrointestinal and colorectal care, Eoin Bambury and Moshe Zilversmit founded the company in 2016 as a spin-out of the National University of Ireland BioInnovate programme. The company, headquartered in Galway, Ireland, plans to conduct a first-in-human study of BioHealx™ technology in the first half of 2019.

Over 17 years R&D experience in new medical device development. Eoin has contributed to the development of six medical devices currently on the market and is a named author on eight patent filings. Eoin was awarded 'Chartered Engineer of the Year 2012' from Engineers Ireland.

Alan has over 40 years of medical device industry experience. Alan has been involved with multiple life science companies as a CEO and as a board member and is a Senior Advisor to Frazier Healthcare Partners. Alan is currently the CEO of Chrono Therapeutics. Alan is an expert in bioabsorbable materials and the inventor of Vicryl, bioabsorbable suture.
DECLAN QUINN
NON EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Over 20 years of leadership experience in the medical device industry, focused on products and technologies for minimally invasive procedures, and specialised in product & technology transfer management. Declan's core degree is in Mechanical Engineering. He is an active supporter of medical device start-up companies.
